Recruiting the appropriate person for the Director post in an Amnesty entity is crucial for the delivery of our human rights work. The Director within an Amnesty entity and the movement as a whole is a key to continue to enhance our work and the delivery of the Strategic Goals. The Director plays an important leadership role in its many areas of work within management, governance, strategy and within Amnesty’s global governance arrangement.
Therefore, as with electing Board members, the recruitment process for Directors should be carefully considered. Typically, the Board of Amnesty entities are responsible for overseeing the recruitment process in an open, fair, transparent and rigorous manner. Ensuring that the recruitment process is thorough and stands up to scrutiny is important to ensure that:
The highest standards of organizational accountability and transparency are met, as per responsibilities to our members and supporters, donors [internal and external], donors and rights-holders.
The best candidate is selected for the position.
There is continuous improvement of the Director’s recruitment process.
